The Project
Welcome to Integrated Planning + Design Facility (IPD Facility) project site!
This site is student-run by current SCARPies and intended to provide the SCARP community and other interested parties with up to date information on the progress of this project as well as a forum for ideas and knowledge sharing.
As you navigate through the site, you will find documentation from SCARP, SALA and the building consultant team relating to the various aspects of the new building and student work on how SCARP envisions this new facility as a sustainable and transdiciplinary facility.
Background to the Project
In the summer of 2010, SCARP and the Schools of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) initiated the formal process for building a joint facility for academic and research programs. The name given to this joint facility was the Integrated Planning + Design Facility (IPD Facility). The space, an infill located in or near the Lasserre courtyard, was envisioned to contain spaces for studio teaching, research and office space to accommodate both faculties under one roof. Both faculties saw developing closer relations between the programs as having the potential to foster innovation, and an enriched learning and teaching environment.
In December 2010, the Steering Committee for the project selected SHAPE Architecture and FeildenClegBradleyStudios as the consultants to take on this project. The SHAPE Architecture (Vancouver) and FeildenClegBradleyStudios (Bath) team partnered with landscape designers PWL (Vancouver) and work place consultants DEGW (London) for the consultation, design and delivery of the IPD Facility. The first step taken was to initiate a feasibility study which was set to run from January – May 2011. To facilitate stakeholder involvement in this study, a Project Committee was formed in December 2010 with the purpose of providing information and advisory council to the Consultant Team during the feasibility study and to provide representation for the constituent stakeholders. The Project Team reported to the Steering Commitee on issues related to budget, schedule and milestones.
